Determination of PAHs by GC-Mass in Sediment Mudflat in Iraq

The mudflat area in the southern Iraq is untapped and there are few studies about it, this study attempts to determine concentration of aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) region, addition their sources assess quality pollution by PPI. Total ranged between (89.8-21.9) µg/g dw with mean value (44.62) dw, among 16 10 these compounds dominant all station as fallow: Benzo(B) (14.46-4.743) Benzo [G,H,I] was (12.5-ND), Benzo[A]Pyrene(7.88-ND),Chrysene (7.85-ND), Fluoranthen (7.31-1.15) Benzo[A]anthrac (6.14-ND)µg/g Fluorene (2.38-ND) Indeno(1,2,3 Ca (6.28-1.98) Pyrene (1.23-ND) respectively, according PPI index (89.8-21.98)µg/g very high polluted (PAHs). ratio Ant/(Ant+Phe) show contamination from Petrogenic origin (1) (1.00-.275), while BaA/ (BaA + Chry) recorded pyrogenic (1,2,4), A Fla/ (Fla - Pyr) shows (1, 4) petroleum on other hand (2,3) derived coal combustion, finally grain size environmental position deposition conditions. In current study, clay particles prevalent, ranging from% (15-30) about% (43- 2). Because weak alkalinity impact marine water, TOC a level % (1.27) near river lowest (6.76) at second station. Sewage remains chief source environment.
